Construction & Renovation Progress

June 2006

Museum staff prepare the grounds for construction. This favorite sculpture was transfered from the old courtyard to the front lawn in preparation for construction.
The courtyard outside the museum & Bickford Theatre entrance is removed.

 

July 2006

A view of the new Entrance Pavilion space where guests will enter both the Bickford Theatre & Morris Museum. The concrete foundation for the new Entrance Pavilion is poured.
Drilling piles in the former museum lobby. The former lobby is cleared out. The original mansion walls & windows will be restored.

 

August 2006

The concrete floor is layed in the future Museum Court.

 

September 2006

A construction worker guides one of the first beams for the new Entrance Pavilion. A large crane raises the Entrance Pavilion beams.

October 2006

Demolition of the former museum lobby. A view of demolition into the upper parking deck entrance.

Renovations on the Lower Level include the Guinness Viewable Storage.

 

November 2006

The Guinness Wing will include a two-story atrium with a skylight. A view of the new Guinness Wing from the back lawn or upper parking deck.
The concrete floor is poured in the new Entrance Pavilion.

 

December 2006

The first sign of sheetrock walls are visible in the Entrance Pavilion.

 

January 2007

The skylight is installed in the new 2-story Museum Court. A crane lifts supplies over the top of the Bickford Theatre.

March 2007

The heating system for the new Guinness wing is prepped and attached to a crane. The massive system is lifted over the top of the building. The enormous crane successfully lowers the system into position. Phew!

 

April 2007

A layer of concrete is applied to the exterior of the Entrance Pavilion. The front doors and glass foyer are installed in the Entrance Pavilion.
