Children's Collections: Historic Classroom

The historic classroom at the Morris Museum
The Historic Classroom is part of the Morris Museum's permanent exhibition.

In our interactive Historic Classroom, children and adults alike can sit in wood desks and use a chalkboard that hearken back to days of yore with a lesson in fun! There are child-sized pinafores to play dress-up, examples of turn-of-the-century school supplies to examine and photographs of historic Morristown to create an atmosphere of discovery.

The classroom area celebrates the fact that the Morris Museum, previously known as the Morristown Children’s Museum, found a temporary home in the Maple Avenue School building prior to moving to 141 Madison Avenue in the 1950s.

Did You Know?
In the late 1800s, boys and girls attended class together, but were required to enter through separate doors!
