Interpretations of 90
May 2002 - December 2003
God's Pod. Molly Gibbons
New Jersey collegiate artists have been invited to construct and decipher the number 90 for an outdoor sculpture exhibition titled Interpretations of 90. The exhibition celebrates the Morris Museum’s nine decades of commitment to the New Jersey art community.

Each artist may interpret 90 in any way they choose, from abstract to realistic. Molly Gibbons, Fine Arts major at Fairleigh Dickinson University, created a clay seed-like pod with 90 separate openings representing each year the museum has changed and developed. Michael Wolf, graduate student from William Paterson University, interprets 90 by casting nine sets of human hands and calling it 18 Hands / 90 Digits. Wolf states “the symbolic importance of hands is that the museum’s collection is largely made of products that have come from human hands and it has taken the collaborative effort of many diverse groups to make the museum a success.” Trotting Strong Through 90 Years is a concept devised by Gail Thompson from the County College of Morris. She plans to create an abstract horse which when viewed from a distance would appear as the numbers 9 and 0.
