Born Arnold Isaacs, Scaasi
studied fashion design at Ecole Cotnoir Capponi in Montreal and at
the Chambre Syndicale in Paris. He came to New York in 1952 to work
with American designer Charles James. In 1954, Arnold Isaacs changed
his last name to Scaasi, which is “Isaacs” spelled backward.
Scaasi opened his first design studio in Manhattan in 1956 and quickly
gained a reputation as one of the most popular designers in the world.
He has received numerous awards including the most prestigious accolade
in the fashion industry, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council
of Fashion Designers of America.
