A series of four fashion-related
programs will be presented in conjunction with this exhibition. Projects
planned for young people include a costume clinic, an exhibit of
design sketches by high school students
and a badge workshop for girl scouts and cadets.

From vintage glamour to mod, learn about the latest trends in fall
accessories from Sandra Wilson, accessories fashion director at Neiman
Marcus. The evening will include a multimedia presentation with
models. Accessories will include exotic bags, shoes, fur jackets,
neck scarves and chandelier earrings. A free cosmetics gift, courtesy
of Neiman Marcus, will be given to all women in attendance.

Since 1979, John Loring has been the design director of Tiffany & Co.
and the author of fourteen books on art and design, including Tiffany
in Fashion, to be published in November 2003. With a historian's
eye for the architects of American fashion and an insider's knowledge
of the outsized personalities on both sides of the camera, Mr. Loring
chronicles the story of fashion's move from Paris to New York, the
rise of fashion photography and Tiffany jewelry as a fashion accessory.

During the Great Depression, costumes played a major role in creating
the public images of movie stars. One of the most influential designers
of the time was Adrian, the chief costume designer at MGM Studios,
who outfitted celebrities including Greta Garbo, Jean Harlow and
Joan Crawford. Becky Lorberfeld, author and costume historian, will
present a slide lecture examining Adrian's role in the creation of
Joan Crawford's public image, exploring how his skillful manipulation
of elements within the visual framework of film helped create the
compelling portrait of a movie star.

Edward Maeder, chief curator of textiles at Historic Deerfield in
Massachusetts, will present a slide lecture on the history of high
fashion. Beginning with Charles Frederick Worth, the "Father
of Haute Couture," Maeder will describe the fashion trends of
Paul Poiret, Mariano Fortuny and Christian Dior, as well as the embroidery
of Francois Lesage.
