Art ExperiencesMore Art Experiences with Nina Nemeth (Ages 6-10)
January 25 – March 15, 12–2PM

Explore the elements of art, from drawing to 3-D. Have fun trying out various visual arts techniques using a wide range of mediums in engaging projects and hands-on activities. If you were in any of the previous Art Experiences classes, come see what new adventures are in store for you. Mediums will include pastel, watercolor painting, drawing and collage.

3D SculptureSculpture and 3-D Art with Caitlin Albright (Ages 8-12)
January 25 – March 15, 1–3PM

Learn how to work with various materials – from everyday items such as paper and yarn, to sculptural mediums like paper mache and Model Magic. Through construction of 3D projects, learn about balance, symmetry and asymmetry, pattern, color, and more. Draw inspiration from other cultures, the work of famous artists, and the natural world. Explore different forms of 3D art such as pottery, relief, or building a human form on an armature.

Mixed MediaMixed Media Collage & Design with Nina Nemeth (Ages 11-17)
January 25 – March 15, 2:30–4:30PM

Explore some of the many mixed media methods using various tools – you might use paint, you might use “bleeding paper,” maybe ink, or collage materials from any number of sources! Enjoy eye-opening classes viewing demos and receiving instruction in different mediums and methods to create a unique work of art.

Tech and ArchitectureDrawing: Tech & Architecture with Kelly Bogucz (Ages 6-10)
January 31 – March 21, 10AM–12PM

Learn the artistic element of perspective through history’s great architecture and fascinating forms of transportation. Explore how these man-made “giants” were planned and constructed. Look at different types of industrial art, and practice your drawing skills on both symmetrical- and non-symmetrical pieces.

Weekend Workshops for Children


Paper Puppets WorkshopPaper Puppets Workshop with Alice Harrison (Ages 7-12)
Saturday, February 21, 10AM12PM

Have fun creating a lively, colorful work of paper art, disguised as a jointed stick puppet. Design it, cut it out, paint it, collage it, decorate it. Bring to life a storybook character, a favorite exotic animal, or a fantasy figure – let your imagination go wild!

Mosaic Bird BathMosaic Bird Bath Workshop with Eleanor Parr-DiLeo (Ages 8 and up)
Sunday, March 22, 12–4PM

Mosaic is an art form that goes back about 6000 years – originally made with pebbles of different colors, later using tesserae manufactured specifically for this art form. In this workshop, learn basic tile-cutting techniques, placement of tiles, gluing and grouting as you create a colorful bird bath to welcome your feathered friends back to the neighborhood this spring! No art or mosaic experience required.

Sculpture

Explorations in Sculpture with Caitlin Albright (Ages 5 – 8)
Monday, January 19, 2015  (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day), 10AM–12PM

This exciting workshop will introduce young artists to the art of hand-building using air dry clay. Students will also learn about color by painting their masterpieces after completing their sculptures. This is a great introduction to learning to think and create in 3-D.

CharcoalCharcoal Drawing Workshop with Nina Nemeth (Ages 9 – 14+)
Monday, January 19, 2015 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day), 10AM–12PM

Students will explore charcoal, a dramatic and rich medium, as they practice their skills of composition, shape, and value in a still life drawing. They will learn about the additive and subtractive techniques used with charcoal to create form and depth in their masterpieces.

A fun, hands-on approach to studio art with a little bit of history mixed in – perfect for students who love to draw and paint and want to learn how to use these materials in one work of art. Projects will be inspired by famous artists but students will make their own original creations

Pen and InkPen & Ink Drawing Workshop with Pat Flaherty (Ages 12+)
Monday, January 19, 2015 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day), 1–3PM

Learn about the elements of line and value. Express value in your drawing using different types of markings which may even be thought of as variations of lines – dots, dashes, hatch marks and other techniques. The work will be rendered in the timeless medium of pen and ink to create a finished piece.

ScrimshawScrimshaw on Paper Workshop with Kelly Bogucz (Ages 6 – 8)
Monday, February 16, 2015 (President’s Day), 10AM–12PM

Learn about and recreate one of the oldest forms of nautical art. Hear the stories of sailors and how they carved and recorded their big catch onto the tooth of a whale. Once we’ve heard their stories we will create our own ‘big catch’ on a paper whale tooth with pens, using the scrimshaw style of cross hatching and line work.

3D Collage WorkshopThree-D Collage Workshop with Nina Nemeth (Ages 8 – 14+)
Monday, February 16, 2015 (President’s Day), 10AM–12PM

Create a unique piece of art using collage with sculptural features. Learn how to add 3-D elements, and then fill them out in a way that combines these two genres for an eye-catching, 2D/3D work of art.

Just the workshop for young artists who like getting into a little bit of everything. Students will learn how to combine various materials in one project. Materials may range from pastels to paint to tissue paper in this fun and dynamic class.

Figure DrawingFigure Drawing with Laurie Harden
January 29 – April 16, 5–7PM

This class is good for beginners as well as those continuing with their figure drawing practice. Draw the human figure from life – warming up with quick, gesture sketches, and continuing the class session with completed drawings from long poses. Learn and practice proportions and correct relationship between the parts of the body, using guides like plumb-lines and negative spaces. Experience the chance to draw many types of figures. Intro to Drawing and PaintingIntroduction to Drawing & Painting with Abby McBride
January 29 – April 16, 6–8PM

This class is for the beginning or “coming-back-to-it” art student. Explore the basic elements of drawing through a series of studies focusing on line, gesture, light, shadow and composition. Turn your drawings into finished pieces with an introduction to the fundamentals of painting using gouache paint. Develop your skills and personal creativity in this fun, introductory class.

Drawing on AnimationDrawing on Animation with Kelly Bogucz
January 31 – March 21, 12:30–2:30PM

Join us for a story through time – a history of your favorite animated stories and characters. Learn about the origins of animated movies and TV shows. Try your hand at the old styles of animated characters and move along the time-line to explore contemporary ones. Develop colorful backdrops for your story to create a cartoon atmosphere. Make your very own storyboard and illustrated storybook. Sample a computer application that designers use today to make your own virtual character (a free open-source software that you can try out on Kelly’s computer in class, and download on your home computer).
